About SEND Parents Haven
Why we built this, who it is for, and our promise to you.
Why this exists
The EHCP process is one of the most stressful things a family can go through. The paperwork is dense, the timelines are strict, and the consequences of missing a step, or not knowing your rights, can be serious for your child.
SEND Parents Haven was built by parents and SEND advocates who have been through this process. We know what it feels like to sit with a council refusal letter not knowing what to do next, or to receive a draft EHCP at 11pm and have no idea whether it is good enough.
This site doesn't replace proper legal advice. But it gives you a clear starting point: what your rights are, what the deadlines mean, and where to turn for real support, at whatever time of day or night you need it.
What we are and what we are not
We are: a free information resource run by SEND families and advocates. All content is written in plain English and reviewed against current legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
We are not: a law firm, a government service or a replacement for SENDIASS. We always direct you toward professional services for your specific situation.
The information on this site is reviewed regularly and updated when legislation or guidance changes. The last review date is shown in the footer of every page.
Legal basis for content
The navigator content is based on:
- Children and Families Act 2014
- SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (2015)
- Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014
- IPSEA's published guidance on statutory timelines and appeal rights
Wales information is based on the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018. Scotland references the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004. Northern Ireland references the Special Educational Needs and Disability (Northern Ireland) Order 2005.
